NATURAL
WOOD LOG SIDING
Natural wood log siding has long been sought for its
timeless beauty, color, and texture. Channel Back log siding is a
unique high profile log siding developed for application on conventional frame built structures where a
real log appearance is desired. Channel Back log siding can be applied to new or
existing conventional frame built structures, log home gables and log home
daylight basement areas with minimal construction experience.
Our log siding applied to garages and out buildings is a great way to compliment your log home or your home built with log siding. Channel Back log siding is available in tongue and groove and ship lap profiles. The Channel Back in our log siding serves two main purposes. During the drying process it prevents checking and cracking of the log siding and log siding installers like our log siding because it is lighter and easier to handle during construction.

Channel Back log siding is a solid wood log siding
with a high profile pattern for a true round log appearance. Our log
siding
is produced in a variety of wood species to fit individual tastes. The

blind nailed or screwed thus hiding unsightly nail or screw heads.
Channel Back log siding is an economical
product to install verses actual logs and half log siding. Summit Log Products
also produces half log siding for applications that require larger log siding than our
12" Channel Back log siding.

UNMATCHED
QUALITY IN CHANNEL BACK
LOG SIDING
Channel Back log siding is manufactured with strict quality control standards.
Channel Back log siding
starts with high quality wood roughed down to within about a half inch of the
desired log siding profile. The log siding cant is then run through the planer
to create the "Channel Back" or the curve cut out of the backside of the log
siding.
The log siding is then placed in our controlled temperature, slow dry kiln. The channel that has been planed out of the log siding minimizes or prevents checking and cracking on the face of the log siding as it dries. After the drying process is finished, the cants are inspected for twist, cracks, and checks. Some cants are culled, but most are straight and solid. These log siding cants are then sent back to the planer for the final finish log siding profile.
All log siding is then stickered, banded with protective
corners, and wrapped in specialty log wrap to preserve the integrity of the
product during storage and shipping. The channel in the back of the
log siding serves several purposes in the manufacture and application of the log siding.
During the drying process the channel helps reduce checking on the face of the
log siding. The channel also makes the log siding lighter for easier handling
during application.
HALF
LOG SIDING
Summit Log Products produces a unique half log siding. We select premium and
select logs to start. The logs are roughed down through a lathe to within one
half inch if the final log siding profile.
The log then goes through our boring machine that bores a hole all the way
through the center of the log. The size of the bored hole depends on the size of
the log but a three or four inch hole is usually required. This boring process
gives it the same characteristic as our Channel Back
log siding. The bored hole
prevents checking and cracking on the face of the log during the kiln drying
process. Boring also makes the finished log siding lighter and easier to handle
for installation.
After the rough log siding is dried down it is sent back through the lathe for a
final finished profile. From there, the log is sawn down the middle creating two
uniform pieces of half log siding.
This siding costs a little more, but it is there for anyone that wants a larger
than 12 log siding and can be matched for profile and stack height to existing
log homes.

BEVELED
SIDING INSTEAD OF LOG SIDING
If you prefer a flat look log siding or the D
log look instead of the traditional round log siding, Summit Log Products can
provide you with whatever you desire. Beveled siding has a flat faced surface and can
be produced with a smooth, rough sawn or hewn face. This product is a great
imitation of the square log and the D log profile.
